Warum 108 Sonnengrüße? / Why 108 sun salutations?

....

Man sagt, in Ägypten stünden 108 Pyramiden.

Also warum 108 Sonnengrüße? Kein besonderer Grund!

..

We are looking forward to our 108 sun salutations event with live music, this Saturday at 1 pm. Many of you have asked why 108 sun salutations are being practiced. Here is a brief explanation:

The meaning of the number 108:

In many temples of India, the number 108 appears again and again. For example stairs, windows and altars.

The ancient secret teachings of the Indians, the Upanishads, are officially composed of 108 individual texts, as are 108 Purana texts.

The Sanskrit alphabet consists of 54 syllables, each with a female and a male side, that is, 108.

The angles of the contiguous lines in a pentagon (or in the inner pentagon of a pentagram) are exactly 108 degrees. The 108 is also linked to the golden section of Da Vinci by the Pentagon: the side of the pentagon in relation to its diagonal corresponds to the golden section.

It is said that there were 108 pyramids in Egypt.

The Indian gods each have 108 names. (Some even 1008, which means "infinitely much"

The diameter of the sun is 108 times the average of the earth. The distance from the sun to the earth (149.6 million km) is about 108 times as much as the diameter of the sun (1.39 million km). These two facts have already been known to the seers (Rishis) in ancient India (about 4000 years ago) and have now been confirmed by modern science.

In the doctrine of tantra one speaks of an average of 21600 breaths daily. One of these is solar (Surya) and the other lunar (Chandra). If we divide half 10800 by 100, we come to 108. Therefore we should repeat a mantra 108 times, the force will be a hundredfold, and we fill the day with the mystical power

The volume of frozen water rises to 108%.

These also correspond to the 108 pressure points which exist in some Asian martial arts.

Stonehenge is 108 feet in diameter.

Shiva dances as Nataraj (dancer) his Tandava (Divine Dance) in 108 different variants.

An official baseball is sewn with exactly 108 stitches.

The Nepali Parliament has 108 seats.

The geometrical scale of the Cathedral of Chartres, which is supposed to conceal the mystery of the Templars, is based on the 108th century.

A person so relaxed by meditation that he only needs 108 breaths a day is almost enlightened.

"Jain 108" was the first person with a number as a surname. Where there are many Sadhus and Swamis in India who use the number 108 or 1008 in the title and there are masters who were given names by their pupils.

there are certainly 108 explanations for the number 108!

So why practice 108 sun salutations? No particular reason! Just because it is challenging and fun. But it is also a mystical figure and therefore will be a special afternoon.

We will be supported live by master drummer Sinka Abdoul Aziz, who will help us to get through the finish line:

He was born in Bobo-Dioulasso in Burkina Faso. Very early, he learned singing and music from a Griot family. In several West African countries, he met other cultures and traditions and deepened his musical skills in Djembe, Doun, Talking Drum, Calebasse and N'goni. Since 2002, Aziz is based in Germany and founded LANAYA with his brother Ibrahim, to convey the culture of his homeland. The band is modernizing and enriching the rich Manding culture with styles, creating their own musical genre. Thus the band acquired a special reputation in the German multicultural music scene. In 2005 he was the first African artist to perform at the UNESCO Sharq Taronalari Festival in Uzbekistan. As a percussionist in Interkunst, a project against violence and racism, he toured Germany. Since 2006, Aziz has regularly performed with DJ Avieras in the House scene of Lithuania. The formation TRIO DJEKAFO toured in 2008 through Germany and Switzerland.

In 2008 he conducted music workshops at the Oneaka Dance Company in Charlotte, North Carolina / USA. In 2009 he initiated an ambitious project: BEN KADY (peace is good). The ensemble of musicians from about 15 countries presents itself in its extraordinary social, cultural and musical variety. Openness, tolerance, courage and talent are key to this successful project, which Aziz plans to establish every year in Berlin. In Berlin, Aziz performs solo or with his musicians at high-ranking events: Opening of the African film festival AfriKamera and the IAAF World Athletics Championships (2009), as well as on the Fanmeile of the Football World Cup 2006.

In September 2009 the TV station ARTE broadcast the documentary project "24 hours Berlin", in which one of the main protagonists is accompanied by one day as a musician.

We look forward to seeing you!
